The Beauty of Secret Spaces
Caving and exploration has taught me, in an age rife of restrictions of land ownership, that feeding your curiosity of new and secret spaces is a must. I would categorise these spaces as places that everyone could know about and has equal access to, but are avoided because of fear of the unknown within that space, or because of how uncomfortable it is to be within that space.
Going into caves is completely legal, but feels odd, maybe because they are uninhabitable for humans- almost like we shouldn't be there. However, the feeling of being 'unpolished' in your old trousers and getting muddy in such a 'polished society' feels like a freedom. I always feel blessed for having access into places like this, with a community who love to encourage each other to do so safely.
For my birthday, I was lucky enough to get the experience of this 'spatial curiosity' back that I had missed so much in lockdown. In the dead of night, my housemates and I snuck into a place that we like to go to. It's a place that makes you feel as if something or someone is there, in the tunnels with you. It was so enjoyable!
*Please don't go into these spaces if you have not done your research, set a call-out, have proper equipment, (lights), adequate food and water for each person and are not fully trained to go into these types of spaces. Always have a leader on your trip who is trained and well-acquainted with caving/urban exploring. Insurance is also a good idea. This post does not encourage anyone else to do the same as I have done, it's simply for viewer's interest.
